Been such a long time since I wrote something here. Came across a mail sent to one of my friends in 2015 in response to his post on Rediscovery of India. Doesn't look like things have changed much over the last two years..Posting my reply.

That's a good one.
Thanks for sharing..Its a take on ' Discovery of India' by Chacha Nehru...IT IS time for a 'Rediscovery'..totally agree..!!
But people always say India is diverse, so all these problems..its even mentioned in the above article that China is homogenous..well the truth is 'ITS NOT'. China is really vast and there are lots of cultural and diverse ethnic groups - different cuisine, language. dialect etc..

People (most of the time), think from only one point of view and make assumptions.
We, the so called educated lot shouldn't do that. We got to admit that the administration (socialist) of China is responsible for what/where China is now compared to India.
But here again, since most of the information coming out of China is screened, we are not sure about the 'ACTUAL' state of affairs there.
We do enjoy a certain state of democratic freedom that we often boast. But I think, the truth is - Snooping, screening, freedom (or rather, lack) of expression is prevalent in India which is evident from the arrests for those FB Posts (in Mumbai).
Coming to 30% living in urban areas..what about the remaining 70%? 50-55% of Indians defecating outside, with no actual sanitation.
Why cant we do something about this? I am sure this is not because of lack of money (atleast 5% would be able to afford a decent toilet - there are rich in rural/villages too). There is a need to educate them regarding this and to provide proper sanitation for those who cannot afford.
Corrupt government and bureaucracy is eating up the resources and finally citizens have to pay for the resultant inflation and increase in taxes. All the money scammed out- be it 2LCr Coal scam/3G Scam (and all those that the media is yet to reveal), that should have been used for the country is gone.
But this should be accounted for and how is it done - routed back to citizens through increase in cost(inflation) and taxes.

If the funds (allocated ones) are channelised properly and NGOs work in sync, I am sure Gandhi's Ram Rajya and vision 2020 IS a POSSIBILITY! Otherwise, this is a mere 'Dream'. We do have a system in place (5 year plan/programmes - replaced by NITI Aayog and schemes etc), but implementation is a problem.
We have laws, but enforcement is a problem. We have big development plans for the country, but infrastructure is another problem.
Indians are blessed with one of the best natural resources - 'HUMAN' Resource! We don't have to complain about 'not having' Oil or Natural gas fields. Just got to make the best use of our vast Human Resource.
How did Uttar Pradesh, with its largest human resource (population-20 Cr plus) become one of the lowest state in terms of Human Development Index? Governance, maybe.

We have governments coming to power and making decisions/pleasing communities to extend their rule/power for 5 years (or more). Governance is not there. Its all about POWER and MONEY, not RESPONSIBILITY.
The impact and corrupt use of media(for selfish motives) is another 'FACT' that's hurting our great nation.
I also, sometimes believe - Maybe, we are ruled by some MNCs or big corporations, who, with their immense finances are able to 'BUYOUT' the law, the media, the people, in short - the NATION. They exercise control over the most important areas of our society: Healthcare, Education, Infrastructure.

They are utilizing our great 'DEVELOPING NATION' theory to milk even the last drop the economy has to offer and extend their reign/influence.
I don't want to be another critic who complains about the poor state of our beloved country while working/staying in a developed nation like UAE. But staying outside the country really gives a different dimension to our thinking.
I totally agree that governing a great nation like ours is a massive undertaking and hats off to the people doing the same. If only, GREED was kept out of all this.

A firm democracy for solid decision making is the need of the hour (maybe, that's why there is this MODI fanfare these days). We need a place where things get done rather than only meetings/discussion/protests which finally leads to uncertainty, confusion and chaos. The sad part is- this has crept even into our judicial system. But good thing for us is..Bollywood is getting lotsaf real life scripts and we can enjoy watching the same..
Cheers!
